1st Year Anniversary in London

One year has passed since I started living in London. Strangely I don’t feel being more British or Lithuanian. I guess I’m living somewhere in between. I’m mostly unaware what’s happening in UK or Lithuania. Maybe because I was never particularly interested anyway.

I find living in London enjoyable and when I think of the future I don’t see myself coming back. Life is good here. Good career perspectives, a huge variety of entertainment, incredible amount of good restaurants, fantastic selection of foods available, better weather, plenty of interesting people and of course the beautiful parks. In some way it also seems that people in London are living in the future compared to Lithuania. For example gay pride events are so last year’s news.

The city itself has a superb transport system though you will always hear Londoners complain. It isn’t cheap but I don’t even think of owning a car since there is no need for it.

When I think of Londoners I imagine them as always busy people whom hardly have time to meet. It’s as if they have the whole year planned ahead. They do like to travel a lot more than Lithuanians, probably because they can afford it. I also found they enjoy spending money. It’s not uncommon for them to not have any money left at the end of the month even if they earn twice as much than they need to survive. I might as well be wrong about this, but that’s how I feel about quite a few people I’ve met.

All in all London is a good place to be. Hell I would even raise my children here if I wanted any. Over the year I’ve had conversations with a few acquaintances of mine whom seriously considered coming to the UK. Though sadly they lacked the initiative to make the last step. I hope over the next years more of my friends will evacuate from Lithuania since that is the only thing I sincerely miss.
